This is the HOME PAGE IN THE BEGINNING ... WHAT AMERICAN VISITORS SAY ... WHAT THE FRENCH SAY ... WHAT IT'S LIKE TO CRUISE FRANCE'S CANALS AND WATERWAYS ...

Welcome to Americans-in-France.com ...
a lively commentary from America's visitors to France and those cruising the canals and waterways of France ... and their French hosts.

This website was established in April 2003 as a forum for Americans to share their views, reactions, anecdotes about their experiences travelling in France, focusing especially on their experiences cruising on a hotel-barge down the canals and rivers of France. It was set up, in part, to address a lack of knowledge about what the canal barge experience is like, and specifically to address how passengers feel about their welcome in France, and their interaction with everyday people in villages and countryside.

In 2003, because of factors in the broader political and world environment, some US travellers have wondered what it is like to travel in France. Others wonder how the French react to American travellers these days. And many want to know what the French canal barging experience is really like -- this year in 2003.

This website is addressed to all those who are curious about France, and is made possible by American travellers who have enjoyed a week on a barge in France this year, and who have had the opportunity to travel in the towns and countryside before and after their barge trip. Their comments, concerns, joys, and reactions are captured here ... for your enjoyment, and to assure you that when things may be topsy-turvy in the world ... meandering along a quiet canal in the French countryside may be about the best possible balm for the soul.

Welcome aboard our web site!

We are gathering comments from canal and waterways passengers along with photographs they may contribute. Come back often to visit this site. It will change frequently during the 2003 season. We invite your comments. Passengers, barge crews, and barge owners are welcome and encouraged to send comments, photos, and passenger quotes to comments@americans-in-france.com, OR click here.

Thanks for your participation!!

This page last revised April 27, 2003. It will be regularly updated throughout the 2003 season -- as often as once a week, whenever we have new contributions.
